Water Cups, 2021
A series of six narrative cups engaging and responding to the theme of water, in both their form and their glaze surfaces, and both as a liquid to be consumed from them and an element in nature. I have a deep relationship to the natural environments I’ve lived in, and as a child of the Western US, I am very aware of both the lack and abundance of water in the places I’ve lived, in the SW and the NW. I’ve formed strong connections to the bodies of water around me, and I also take comfort in the physical reality and symbolism that my own body is one of water. I’ve recently moved to Chicago near Lake Michigan, and I am learning to build relationship with this new water body I find myself near.
Each cup depicts a different element of water.
