Home Sweet Home: Emotional Labor, Gender, & the Domestic, 2016
A collaboratively written site-specific performance piece. The performance took place inside the home of one of the collaborators, and ran on a continuous loop over the course of two hours. Scenes happened concurrently, some repeating over and over, and some evolving over the course of the performance. Audience members walked through the house to experience the show, entering the scenes and meshing with the performers. In addition to the multiple scenes, there were also several interactive installations and objects throughout the house. The work engaged themes of gendered experience, alienation, housework, emotional labor, the surrealism of anger, and home spaces. The looped, multi-room, interactive perfomance structure was heavily inspired by MedeaHouse.
There are unfortunately no photos or videos from the night of the performance. The following image is a drawing by Kira Jacobson of the house in which the performance took place, which was used on our program. You can find the program here.
